Meet Your Teacher
Mayor's Fun Run

Hi, my name is Mr. Staudt.  I have have been the Physical Education teacher here at St. Edward for 13 years.  I teach pre-school through eighth grade.  Some of my hobbies are playing golf, watching NFL football, and spending time with my wife and two daughters, Hannah 13 and Rylee 9.  I enjoy all sports, which explains why I became a PE teacher.  I hope all students come to class willing and ready to try new things.  It is going to be a great year!

What are we doing in PE?

We are working on our eye foot coordination in class.  If we are outside we will play soccer, if we are inside we will play mat ball and or indoor soccer.  Mat ball is a fun game played inside, we use our tumbling mats for bases because you can have 5 players on one base.  We also run around the bases 2 or sometimes 3 times before you can score.  Mat ball requires lots of teamwork on defense and requires lots of running with plenty of strategy to go with it.

The Health Corner

Old habits die hard! Revise your vague goals such as “I want to lose weight” or “I want to exercise more” to more specific and realistic goals. Some examples include:

  • Eat breakfast every day. (You will be less likely to snack later in the morning and early afternoon.)
  • Drink skim or 1% milk instead of 2% or whole milk. (You will reduce your calories and grams of fat, yet still receive the same amount of calcium, protein, and vitamin D.)
  • Park the car farther out in the parking lots of stores and malls. (Increase the number of steps you walk in a day.)
  • Get up one-half hour earlier each day. (This can give you time to exercise, assemble healthy food in the crockpot, and make mornings less stressful.)
  • Try one new health-promoting food each week. (Try eating more fish, which is high in omega-3 fatty acids; folate-rich foods such as green, leafy vegetables, dried beans, or breakfast cereal; or soluble fiber from oats and dried beans, which lower cholesterol.)
  • Put away the salt shaker. (The new recommended maximum daily sodium intake is 1500 mg for everyone.)
  • Try one new physical activity each month this winter…snowshoeing, cross country skiing, Wii®, or join a fitness center class such as spinning.

Remember to pick one goal and stick with it! Change one habit at a time. Each small step can lead to a healthier 2011.

Mayor's Fun Run 2011

What a day we had for the Fun Run this year.  Congratulations to Emily S. for winning the race and being the fastest girl in Waterloo.  Her time was 7:10.  She also came in 2nd overall in the race.  We also had Cannon B. come in 2nd for the boys and 3rd overall, Ben S. was 3rd for the boys and 4th overall.  Our whole 4th grade class finished the race in less then 13:00 minutes.  Way to go 4th graders.  We had a great time at Brynes Tennis Center with coach Will.  We learned about tennis and about staying active to keep our bodies healthy.  Make sure to check out the pictures for the Fun Run.

Odds and Ends for PE

Remember you need tennis shoes each day for PE.  All 5th -8th graders must change out of what they wear to school and put on a St. Edward PE uniform and or spirit wear.  You need to come to class ready to participate each and every day.

Things to work on for PE-

1. Keep active we would like to see 30 minutes a day outside of school.
2.  Work on your eye foot coordination by playing kickball or soccer at home with you family and or friends.
3.  Always be positive, this will make you a good friend and fun to be around.
